¡ÚI made this calendar for migrant friends of mine to commemorate the 57th anniversary of universal declaration of human rights.
I photographed my friends since 2004 and selected these images for this calendar. I also include the memorial days of Nepal, Burma and Bangladesh in their own languages.
These memorial days as well as Korean human rights related memorial days are marked in yellow green color. I wish this calendar to be shared not only in galleries but also in the rooms, kitchens or offices by everyone including migrant workers in Korea.

Prologue

A group of migrant workers staged a sit-in protest against banishment of unregistered migrant workers and to secure work permit system. As I got involved in this protest, I got to know MB and also that he was dating a Korean woman. As the protest was about to finish MB brought good news to his friends. The news was that MB and his girlfriend MN were going to marry.

Surprisingly the location was not a church or a wedding hall but a club named Unlimited Expansion Energy (Mugyunggae Paengchang Energy) at Hong-Dae. They were going to have a totally new type of wedding. MB called it a partnership party not a wedding. Cute little wings of angel were attached at the back of the bride and bridegroom wearing plain casuals and the wings were the only indicators that distinguish the two from the guests.
The foods at the feast were crossing national borders as languages and laughter were. Some traditional percussion sounds and nuptial songs added to create a wedding atmosphere. As dance music came out of the stereo, everybody started dance. The couple, migrant workers, their Korean friends and everybody enjoyed the all-night party.

They met at a sewing factory of Changsindong 10 years ago. As they work at the same place they became close to each other and decided to unite. But it didn¡¯t really work because her parents were strongly opposed to the match.
As the result of 3 days of tears without eating and drinking she won the agreement from her parents. They are now running an Indian restaurant in Changsindong.

May
Radhica, Changsindong Seoul, 2005
This attic is a private space for Radhica. It is normally used as storage for her clothes and blankets but she could sleep here and she sometimes stays in this private space when she wants to be alone or feels depressed. As I suggested them a photo shot, they took poses and started a chat.

June
Kumar's room, Changsindong Seoul, 2005
I have a spare key to Kumar's room where many migrant workers stay together. It was his consideration that allows me to come in the room freely. Kumar said that he copied the key for about 20 people but they went back home without returning the keys. The room is a haven for many migrant workers.

July

Whereas his brother and sister staying in Hongkong came home to see father, Raju was not able to come home in Nepal when he was told that his Father was in a critical condition. His friend ¼î¿Î is console Raju.

August
Chusok (Thanks giving day), Changsindong Seoul, 2005

September
Workers from Burma, Dodangdong Bucheon, 2005
À©¶óÀÌ introduced me Burmese workers working at a molding factory as I requested a photo shoot. À©¶óÀÌ knew the boss well since he volunteered to be an interpreter when his Burmese friends look for job. The boss visited the factory early in the morning as I took photographs of the migrant workers. She disclosed that she has never been free of worries since unregistered migrant workers work for her.

October
Jahid, Shinmunro 2ga Seoul, 2004
I went to a small park as Jahid called me. He asked me to take a photograph of him with autumn leaves as there is no such a thing in Bangladesh. A few days later, Jahid was deported back to Bangladesh after a fight against a Korean man.

November
